Let's talk about ashy /silver blonde and the difference between color and tonality.
Color is determined by levels from 1 to 10. 1 is the darkest color and 10 is the lightest.No one is born with a natural level 1 or 10 and maybe even 2 and 9.Most people have natural colors ranging from level 3 to 9.3 is dark brown and 9 is light blonde. Tonality on the other hand describes how warm or how cool a color is. For example, copper is a warm tonality while the color you see in this photo is a cool tonality.However color and tonality are related because you can only have certain tones at certain levels. For example you can have coppers from level 6 to level 9 but for ashier blondes such as the photo here you need to be at a level 9 or preferably 10 to achieve this look. Even natural light hair wont strip to silver blonde, there will still be some yellow. So how do we achieve this color? We strip the hair to the lightest possible yellow and then add a violet based toner in order to neutralize yellow tones and this is what comes out if done correctly. Keep in mind that toner always washes out the hair, eventually revealing what is underneath. The more often you shampoo the faster it will come out. Make sure you use sulfate free/sodium chloride free shampoo as this will prolong the life of your toner. We can also customize a shampoo or masque for you by adding violet pigments in the salon.I am writing this because it is somewhat confusing for a client why their ash tones dont last. I hope you all have a better understanding of color and tones after reading this.Thank you @alfaparfusa for creating an amazing color line. Toned with 9.21 and 10.21.Roots 8.12.
